Year 7 currently receive two lessons per week for ICT, whilst year 8 receive two lessons per fortnight. Currently there is no provision for discrete ICT lessons in Year 9, however students in Year 9 will utilise the ICT rooms whilst undertaking tasks for other subjects.
During this time the students are introduced to the Microsoft Office, Open Office and Macromedia software suites. Students cover a range of topics throughout the years working with graphics, word processing, desk top publishing, presentation software, spreadsheets, databases, audio software and numerous other applications. The aim of the lessons to equip the students with a range of transferable skills that can be applied to the technological demands of other subjects and ICT work set within them. For example Year 7 students will in their second term use a program called audacity to record themselves speaking French or Spanish whilst creating quizzes based on trigger animated slide shows using Open office Impress.
Students will also be introduced to web 2.0 tools over Key Stage 3 including blogging and sites such as xtranormal.
