Design Technology
In Year 7 pupils work with a wide variety of resistant materials, acrylic, aluminium and wood.  The pupils are introduced to basic Systems and Control with a simple electronics project and designing and making a mechanical toy. They finish the year by making an ultra slim torch using a super bright white Light Emitting Diode.
 
In year eight pupils create an original puppet from flexible materials that stars in a group video. They design and build their own version of a pinball game. They work in teams to build a structure out of paper that can lift over a kilogram. They research clocks and design their own innovative clock, which can be both designed and made on the computer
 
In Year 9 they modify a ping-pong firing kit to control the direction and the rate that it fires the balls. They use Computer Aided Design to model and assemble the components. They tackle two System and Control projects: fitting an automatic braking system to a buggy and producing an automatic reversing system. They engage in Product Design by creating an innovative touch sensitive torch for a target audience of their choice. This can be modelled in Computer Aided Design and machined out on our CNC 3D Router.
