Music
Music lessons generally emphasise learning through creation. This means a good deal of original composing work. Pupils learn the technical aspects of the subject through project briefs which incorporate specific features from particular areas of study. Performing, composing and listening are all given their due emphasis.

ICT is used a great deal in this process . We also provide opportunites for pupils to take lessons with visiting teachers offering tuition in most orchestral instruments, keyboard, piano, guitar, drums and recorder. There is currently a scheme running to give boys the chance to have free lessons in clarinet or trumpet for a term. We also run a 'Consortium Band' jointly with Fulston Manor and Highsted. This offers specialist instrumental tuition as a beginner band player, allowing a large number of pupils to try a wind instrument (following the American system) for minimal cost.

Extra-curricular activities aim to make full use of all musical interests and talent among the boys. We have an orchestra, a choir and a beginner band on a permanent basis. In addition to these, we have various groups - some initiated and run by the boys - which come and go as the need arises. There are two public concerts during the course of the year which feature many types of music and also a 'Battle of the Bands' event to showcase the many talented rock musicians in the school.
